Everyone wants to live a happy and healthy life but it not always easy to do, here's my how to guide on looking and feeling great. :)
Banish anxiety!
Everyone feels worried or anxious every now and then but if your like me and suffer from anxiety on a regular basis then try these tips and enjoy your life more:
* Change the way you think. Don't let negative thoughts own you, notice when you are thinking or talking negative and using negative words and try to change them for positive ones.
* Keep your brain busy. This is definitely easier said then done but practice makes perfect. When you find yourself feeling anxious fix your mind to something else. Try a puzzle like crosswords or Sudoku, reading or writing also helps. Do something you enjoy and try keep your mind from thinking about being anxious.
*Focus on your breathing. If you suffer from fast breathing, tense muscles, shaking, rapid heart rate and nausea then take 5-10 minutes on your own to focus on slow calm breathing.
Find your long lost energy!
In this day and age energy is something most people are running low on, try these tips to help you recharge:
*Don't take yourself for granted. Everyone's so busy now a days that we forget were only human. Plan your time more wisely and make sure to give your self the well deserved rest you need after a busy day. Try making a weekly to do list rather then a daily one and spread things out evenly.
*Learn how to say 'no'. If your one of these people who say yes to everything then your going to burn yourself out. If your not sure you really have the time or better yet the energy for it then say no. The world will keep turning i promise.
*Know whats good for you. We all have things in our life that drain our energy. Be it certain people, certain foods or certain tasks, if its not making you happy then get rid. The happier you are the more energetic you'll feel.
Focus on friends!
If you want to invest in your own well-being then invest your time and give it to your friends. Friends are great stress busters and help us feel good about ourselves. Research shows that having good friendships can keep our brains healthy as we age and even promotes longer living.
Have a laugh!
Many studies have shown that having a good laugh can improve immunity, decrease stress and lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Surround yourself with people and things that make you laugh. Go to a comedy show, watch funny films and T.V shows or just hang out with your funniest friends. Laughter is the best medicine.
Don't stress IBS!
Irritable bowel syndrome is more common then people think. Research has shown that hypnosis can be a great way to cut IBS symptoms rite down. However if that's not really an option for you then try these tips to help:
* Take your time when eating a meal, don't rush your food down and try to eat regular meals.
*Even though it may be difficult health professionals advise us to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. This is something i struggle with myself but i'm working on it and so can you. Other fluids like herbal teas are also great.
*Drinks with caffeine in should be limited tea, coffee and fizzy drinks like coke. Also any fizzy drink can cause bloating and discomfort so try to cut down.
*Why don't you try keeping a food dairy, everyone's different and different foods can cause problems for different people so try find out which foods are causing you problems, then you can focus on whats best to cut out.
Relax!
Take time out of your busy life, and pencil in some me time. Take 15 minutes each day to just sit and relax. Sit straight, close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Counting to 7 on your inhale, hold for 7 and then 7 on your exhale. Repeat 10 times and then give yourself a few minutes to come to before returning to your busy life.
Soak up the sun!
The sun is a great source of vitamin D and a lot of people are lacking in it. A lack of vitamin D has been linked with diseases such as cancer and diabetes so if it turns out you don't live on a tropical island and the sun isn't something you can easily get your hands on there are other ways to top up your vitamin D levels. As well as getting vitamin D supplements you can find vitamin D in, eggs and oily fish such as salmon, sardines and mackerel. But hey, at least we've got an excuse for sunbathing now.
Make sure your cup is half full!
It has been found that optimists recover better for illnesses live longer and have better immune systems. So tell yourself 'everything is going to be ok' and it just mite. Try using positive affirmations every day like 'i am happy and healthy and full of energy' and 'i can do anything i put my mind to'. You can make your own affirmations up, repeat each one ten times a day. At the end of each day try writing down 3 things your happy about that have happened that day.
Sleep well!
Not only is sleep important for resting your body but it is also important for your emotional well-being. Studies have found that while your in REM sleep the bodies stress chemistry shuts down and this can make stressful situations easier to cope with. A good nights sleep can also help you concentrate better, feel in a better mood and improve your memory.
